OK.... So We Are Missionaries
Yes, if this wasn't obvious enough already, we are Christian's committed to the work of advancing God's Kingdom and raising up laborers for the work. There are many valid and useful Christ-centered ministries in this life, but we believe that for the church to grow, the member of the local church must have easy access to the Word of God. So our work is foundational here. It is really very hard to raise disciples for Christ without the written Word of God. If you don't believe us, try hiding your Bible or New Testament for a month and do God's work without it.
So.... You Do the Actual Translation, Right?
No...... Wycliffe Bible Translators use a multi-national team of specialists from around the world to minister to over 70 countries. One does not have to be a "specialist" in theology (ie. graduate from seminary) to have a place of service in the Bible Translation task. So we serve the Papua New Guinea people with our specialist skills of medical doctor, and as computer consultant. But in the end, we are just a small part of a huge world-wide team of over 6000 members with a shared vision.

"Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest'? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest. Already he who reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for life eternal; so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together." — John 4:35-36
How We Got Started
Helen and I met and married in Vermont after our University experience. Brian graduated with a Masters in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University and was hired by International Business Machines (IBM) to create the next generation integrated circuit memory modules of the day (1977). After normal working hours he was often found chatting and ministering with University students at the University of Vermont.
Helen, meanwhile was finishing her Pediatric Residency at the University of Vermont Medical Center. Eventually she too would minister to students as a staff physician at UVm student health, and later established a private practice in the Milton area, northeast of Burlington, VT.
As singles both of us felt the calling of God to overseas missionary work using our technical skills for the Glory of God. My engineering abilities morphed into custom programming and later consultant work for the translation teams using their computers. Helen went on to health care services in a remote PNG highlands clinic to both PNG national citizens, and expatriate workers. She also became a specialist in Tropical Medicine and diseases and also the rigors of third world emergency med-evac care.
